South West Woodfuel Advice Service

The South West Woodfuel Advice Service provides free advice, support and grant aid for people considering wood heating installations in the South West.  The regional programme will provide free phone-based advice to households, communities, schools, business and the public sector who may be considering a modern wood heating boiler system as an alternative to fossil fuels.  Suitable cases will be offered a free an on-site consultation visit from one of several wood fuel experts involved in the scheme. The service will be offering grants for exemplar projects located within participating Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Dartmoor National Park .  For more information please call 08450 74 06 74 or visit http://www.cse.org.uk/cgi-bin/projects.cgi?community&&1088 .

Bio-Energy Capital Grants Scheme

The fifth round of the Bio-energy Capital Grants Scheme was launched on the 10th December 2008.  The application window is open until 30 April 2009.  Applications will be assessed as and when they are received , rather than being left until the end of the application window. Applicants are to be given a decision on their project within 4-6 weeks of receipt of the application.

Grants are available to support the installation of biomass-fuelled heat and combined heat and power projects in the industrial, commercial and community sectors in England only. Grants upto 40% are available, with a maximum grant of £500,000 per installation. There is no minimum grant.

Responsibility for the scheme has transferred from Defra to the new Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC).  The round is being administered on DECC’s behalf by AEA.  Detailed guidance notes explaining the scheme, plus the application form, are available to download from the website at: http://www.bioenergycapitalgrants.org.uk/
