Milton Keynes’ First Wind Farm
Construction is starting this week on Milton Keynes’ first wind farm. The seven turbines, which are due to be installed near Emberton, will generate about 38,000 MWh of electricity per year, the equivalent of producing enough electricity for about 8,000 homes and displacing up to 36,300 tonnes of CO2 per year. The work is scheduled to be completed by September 2010.

Green500: Best Carbon Reduction Project
The Green500 project has won a prize at the Edie Award for Environmental Excellence ceremony, which took place last Thursday at the London’s exclusive Hurlingham Club, in the category of Best Carbon Reduction Project.

Join Us at the T-Zero Launch
This is a free event on 2nd November 2009 at BRE, Watford, from 09.30 to 14.30. Lunch will be provided. Attendees will be able to hear about the T-Zero website and how its marketplace can help suppliers get in contact with customers who have made the decision to refurbish their homes.

Simple Carbon Calculator Updated
One of the most popular pages on the National Energy Foundation is our "Simple Carbon Calculator". We first wrote this in 2000 to provide a straightforward way of computing a carbon footprint from billing or consumption records. We have always taken emission factors from Defra's official UK data for environmental reporting, although in keeping with the calculator's name, we have always simplified some of the calculations. So we are pleased to announce that the calculator has now been updated and enhanced again, to include June 2009 figures and more electricity factors.

Launch of Communities Fund secures early support
The National Energy Foundation successfully launched its Communities Fund at a reception in London yesterday evening. The charitable Communities Fund is raising money to support communities planning their own sustainable energy projects in the fight against climate change. The event attracted senior figures from the private and public sector and resulted in an immediate commitment of funds from leading environmentalist and philanthropist, Professor Tony Marmont.

Grants for East of England businesses for Sustainable Energy Training
Smaller businesses (SMEs and sole traders) in the East of England are benefiting from a new initiative which can give them up to 50% of the cost of training courses (including courses on Sustainable Energy run by NEF) through the “Beyond 2010” project.

Sustainable Energy Academy wins Ashden Award for Sustainable Energy
Milton Keynes based charity the Sustainable Energy Academy (SEA), who work together with the National Energy Foundation, were last night announced as winner of the Charity and Community Category at the prestigious Ashden Awards for Sustainable Energy.

NEF works with London Mayor on Green500 Awards
The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has heralded the capital's top organisations for saving nearly 120,000 tonnes of carbon, slashing tens of thousands off their energy bills.
At the first ever Green500 and Better Buildings Partnership awards (11 June 2009), the Mayor presented a range of performance accolades to London large organisations covering a range of sectors such as sports, arts, education, local government, transport and commercial landlords. Carbon savings are independently verified through the National Energy Foundation. The event was hosted at Chelsea Football Club who is a member of the Green500 and the first football club to join the scheme.

New Research Project looks at Energy from Fish Waste
NEF has joined ENERFISH, a new European Research Project looking at producing biodiesel from the waste generated at a fish processing plant. This three-year project is supported by the EU's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) and the lead partner is VTT, Technical Research Centre of Finland. To ensure the viability and rapid commercialisation of the technology, the partners are constructing a biodiesel production plant next to the Vietnamese fish processing plant Hiep Thanh Seafood JSC.
