LogPile – a revamp for the one-stop shop for wood fuel and wood fuel-related suppliers

The Foundation’s overarching objective is improving the use of energy in buildings and part of our role is to provide impartial, reliable and comprehensive information to help people make the right choices about energy improvements in their homes, and improve their comfort and well-being. One of the services we provide is LogPile - a supplier database to help people who are either interested in, or have already started to use, biomass to heat their homes and provide hot water.
The LogPile database
LogPile – its supplier database and the accompanying web pages on using wood as a fuel - was originally launched in 2002, since when it has developed a reputation as a prime source of information on wood fuel and equipment suppliers.
Over the past few months, we’ve been working to both move LogPile onto the National Energy Foundation website and also put in place some exciting changes and significant improvements that have resulted in an improved service to both the general public and the suppliers it showcases.
As a result, LogPile has recently been revamped and re-launched with a new look and new facilities - all in good time for the 2015-16 heating season.
Unlike other sites, which often provide only basic information, or only promote fuel OR manufacturers, LogPile is unique in the range of information it provides and its flexible search facility. It’s the only online resource where people can search for suppliers of both wood fuel (logs, pellets, chips, etc) AND/OR equipment (boilers, stoves, etc) in one place and at the same time.
Our new-styled LogPile is easy to use and presents information in a clear, accessible and user-friendly way. What’s more, users can search for suppliers by place/postcode and a whole range of other criteria such as the type of boiler or stove, the type of logs, and how they’re supplied.
LogPile going forward
Our aim is to develop LogPile as a sustainable service and for it to be the most comprehensive and accessible source of information on wood fuel and equipment suppliers in the country. We’re currently working with suppliers to update their details and get as many companies as possible listed in time for next winter. We’d be happy to hear from any suppliers who are interested in registering on LogPile; alternatively, they can register online.
